Help Why doesn't netflix go hd?!

Lurker
Back in the GB days I spent many days watching HD anime on my Spectrum. The quality was simply superb. Though the offerings of Netflix no longer fit my tastes, I would still like the option of viewing Netflix in HD. Since I upgraded to ICS and JB, I have lost this option. I cannot figure out why Netflix refuses to stream HD anymore, and have scoured the web in search of a modified APK, and even for HD triggering build properties all to no avail. Could anyone shed some light on this?

Same reason you can't play any other memory intensive HD videos on the Spec using CM. We don't have the proper codecs and the work around that they were using on stock doesn't translate well into CM. It's the same with the AT&T U-verse app.

Wow, now I feel really dumb. Yes I'm a lurker, and I'm sorry about that, but I've been watching the Spectrum gain it's fully developed glory since it first appeared on these forums (because XDA never made a thread for it). I watched as every single step was reached with bated breath. I followed every major developer thread to the letter, and I distinctly remember the codec issue being of concern to the devs here. For some reason, I didn't make the connection with these codecs to the Netflix app, and just assumed I was missing a build property or something stupid. But yeah, neph, thanks for the refresher.
