Help Why dont i get phone calls/texts sometimes?

I dont know why but sometimes i dont recieve the text/phone call at all and sometimes it comes late. Like today i was sitting next to the phone for a call and it never came but when i made a phone call to another number it came up as a missed call. When i talked to the person they said they called like 5-7 times and all went straight to voicemail except the last one where it said missed call. Some times i dont receive texts and if i do sometime they be late. Sometime when im talking to someone they send me a text and i only recieve them when i send another text out then i recieve the text from the person. Its crazy and i know i recieve the text after i sent the text out because when i send it out and i recieve their text it comes up as before the time it is now. I know its confusing but what can i do? Do i need a new phone? I dropped it a couple of times can that have done damage? Or is it something else? Thanks

Have you tried updating your profile and prl?
Settings > About Phone > System Updates

They both have been updated recently. Any other reasons?
