Why even bother with 4.1? Straight to 4.2!

Buying your handset buys you an update or two. Even though its not publicised, that's what we're talking about. When you've had those updates, your credit has ran out. Any thing you expect after your credit has ran out, is expected for free.

Or you'd rather we all paid more for a device? So we Invest more credit, ergo more updates? Seems logical but then when our hardware dies, we lose that "credit".

Here's the problem. Google creates the OS. They have their own phone, so they push the OS to their phone. Thats why the phone gets the update right away.

So now Samsung comes along and makes a phone. They take the OS from Google, and spend a ton of time and money to put their crap on it. All Samsung really should be doing is pushing whatever OS is coming from Google at the time. The problem is that if Google comes out with updates every couple months, it takes time for Samsung to add their crapware to the new releases. By the time they are finished adding their crap to an OS, they are already months behind.

So I'll ask, why don't wireless carriers and manufacturers just push the latest update to their phones and leave their hands off of it?

There's something to be said for Apple having control of the phone AND the OS.

I think we should all chill.

The S2 was released in May 2011 running Gingerbread. Its been updated to ICS and by the end of this year it will be on JB. By that time it will 19 months old and had three fairly major software upgrades.

So there is no reason to doubt that by this time next year the S3 will be in line for an upgrade to whatever albeit a couple of months after the S4.

And as stated elsewhere if you really can't wait there are some excellent ROM out there!

And some like choice which apple doesnt give , i like sense on htc and getting used to touchwiz on my s3 android would become boring like apple if all phones had exactly the same os

I know what you're saying, and I completely agree with you. Maybe a better implementation then would be to have a stock OS for all phones, and each manufacturer can submit their apps to the Google play store. That way those that want the vanilla OS can have it, and those that want the manufacturers apps have the ability to download them. In doing this, we would all get OS updates much quicker.

By the way, I'm not arguing with anyone, I'd just like to make suggestions on how to possibly make android even better.

Calling the features of the S3 and Note 2 crapware is surprising, being both of them much better compared to stock android in terms of functionality. That is the reason I don't go for AOSP ROMs for this phone.

I know what you're saying, and I completely agree with you. I'm not arguing either. I'm debating and its nothing personal either. I'm not angry or unchilled. Its just the internet

For those who want stock, buy a nexus. When you buy a Sammy, you're buying a touchwiz device. I'll tell you what... as a ROM Developer I can tell you, put AOSP on the S3 perhaps you'd be amazed what is missing. Even the feature packed Cyanogen has nothing compared to the features samsung added to the S3. Its not just the hardware specs that make this the best device.

Now if they did put a vanilla android on here, NONE of those features would exist. The platform would not be a true open source platform because we would all be subscribed to the features Google wants to implement. Surely the whole point of Android is we have an open source platform?! We need Samsung introducing features like smart stay, swipe screen capture, hold to face to dial etc etc. Hobbiest devs like me can't do it. Google didn't do it...

Sure some features could be put on the market and only available for samsung devices as an apps. Only some though. Many features are too complicated to be an app. They need specific frameworks to run. But adding these will prevent Google updates as the phone would be different to others. Plus it just takes one person to upload the apk and then the world has their proprietory samsung apps on their ZTE blade. Hows that fair?

So your solution is to turn Android into "apple for multiple hardware"?. One OS to rule them all. That's not why most of us buy android. That removes all our choice. All we choose is screen size and CPU type. Then Google does the rest.

Only, we can't all have different hardware. Because then we'd need a different driver both in android and the kernel. Google cannot provide a kernel and rom that universally works. Its not technically possible. It takes hard core devs a long time to get AOSP android to work on a newly released device. Compiling kernels with drivers etc etc...

So we all have to have the same hardware and same OS. That's just like apple. Maybe if that's what you want, you really DO need a Nexus

The only thing to sell one device over another is aesthetics. "Buy this one its pink" ... "this one has a bottle opener".. OEMs wont subscribe to that. Windows phone isn't even like that.

So lets address "updates until the spec can't take it for non-nexus device"
