I like the clean and minimal look of the app but theres very little you can change inside the app. No color changes is a little annoying. Also, you cant change with the swipe function does on a conversation. You swipe left or right and both of them ask if you want to archive the conversation. You cant switch it to have one "delete"? Edge lighting doesnt work with it??? I cant schedule a text?????

Yep. That is why I prefer to use Textra instead of Google messages
Ditto. Was worth a few dollars for how customizable it is.

Messages lacks customisations because it's a Google app. It's that simple: with Google apps you get Google's choices and you are supposed to like them.
For me personally RCS is not important: only a minority of the people I message have access to it (some are on networks that don't support it, some use other apps and don't have it yet, some use iPhones and will never have it), and hence it's too hit and miss to use any of its extra features. So I just use regular SMS and use WhatsApp for anything fancier. The upside of this is that I don't have to put up with Google's app.

Even worse, textra said they were ready to do it in 2017. That's what a S*** show RCS has been lol.
