That when I turn on WiFi the ATT data network is automatically turned off?

This presents a problem when sending MMS while on WiFi only.

I just sent a picture MMS while connected to Wi-Fi. The H+ popped up, showed it was uploading, then popped away after the picture sent a couple seconds later. Nifty.

That was the behavior I was expecting also but it did not happen.

Are you using the stock messaging app or something like Go or Handcent?

Hmmmm.

I just tested it with the stock app and it behaved as expected. In GO Sms it never activates the data network therefore it never sends.

Do you have any battery saver like juice defender running? I don't have this problem with my wifi on.
 
+1 on JD or similar, I've had apps fail initially due to JD having wifi or data off - it's a great app but does require some tweaking to get it right...
 
I think you guys are right. I had Juice Defender installed and after uninstalling it the MMS does go through without an intervention on my part.

Now the question is, what switch in JD do I need to flip to make this a seamless operation?

I have JD Ultimate so I should have full control over the app.. Just need to know what switch to throw in JD to make this work like it should.

Two areas seem to be the ones... First come out of "balanced" settings and choose "customize"

Then look at the Settings Tab and these options, one of these should do the trick.

Wifi - enabled - change to disabled to keep JD from messing with the WiFi at all. But, try one of the two below to keep JD maintaining wifi but with better control:

Options - set to wifi preferred.

- or -

Apps - enable this to set specific wifi config for specific apps. This is probably the best choice.

I will try these tonight as well...
