Why is the Moto G's wifi so pathetic?!@!?

Straight out of the box I had WiFi issues. It would not connect to my home internet. I'm with Boost. Boost's support was worthless as usual. They referred me to Motorola's support who weren't any better, and they advised me to return the phone. Two hours after purchasing, I was not thrilled about having to return it, so I didn't. Then all of a sudden, it connected. It takes FOREVER to connect once I'm home, but once it does, it will usually STAY connected.

Now regarding WiFi speeds - they're pathetic. As a new user, I'll have to describe my speeds since I cannot post screenshots of the speedtest.net's results. I tested each device one after another at the same exact distance from my modem.

Device : Ping (ms) - Download Speed (mbps) - Upload Speed (mbps)

Laptop : 44 - 16.08 - 0.80

Samsung Intercept : 649 - 7.39 - 0.82
Samsung Transform Ultra: 101 - 7.18 - 0.79
Motorola Moto G: 78 - 1.73 - 0.75
Moto G 2nd test: 81 - 1.58 - 0.76

Is this normal for this phone? What WiFi speeds do you guys and gals get?

Perhaps worth mentioning is I have NOT updated to kitkat (I like the ice blue theme more than off-white, so I defer the update installation every day, lol).

Neither of these phones are top-tier, I realize that, but why would four and five year old phones have faster WiFi speeds than a 2013/2014 device?!

Check your wifi settings in your router. I haven't performed any tests, but the speed with my device seem perfectly normal compared to other phones

Hi, some of my results:

Device : ping (ms) - down (mbps) - up (mbps)

Old XP desktop on wifi - 31 - 11.65 - 0.88
win7 laptop - 29 - 12.75 - 0.89

Moto G wifi - 31 - 12.06 - 1.17

Moto G 3G - 132 - 4.64 - 1.13

My tests. All devices within a foot of eachother and about 10 feet from our router:

Gateway laptop - 44 - 23.96 - 7.06

Moto G - 19 - 24.00 - 8.76 (this one chose a different local closer to me)

LG G2 - 19 - 31.56 - 7.33

Samsung Chromebook - 14 - 27.44 - 7.83

As you can see, they're all very similar. If you're getting that radically different results, there's either a problem with your router or phone.

I think you have a defective phone or it could just be because its boost's model. My Verizon moto g has remarkable WiFi power and speed.

Not sure as to why you're getting the speeds you're.. Might be your actual internet connection speed or a poor router? I have 60mb/s internet connection speed from xfinity..

Edit: just seen that you said you haven't updated to KitKat, that could play a major factor in the reason for why you're getting the speeds you're..

Why don't you try making a nandroid of your stock 4.3 then update & retake the test.. If you're not satisfied, then you could restock back to 4.3 with your backup.

Hope this helps any...

Yeah, I'll second the others that it sounds like there's an issue with your phone, internet connection or router if you're seeing speeds like that. Here's mine (US GSM) on a 60/5 internet connection...
