why my data cable dont work?

Hello,i have recently bought a motorola moto g which performs everything very well except for the data cable.nothing is shown on the monitor or the mobile phone when the cable is connected.but sometime it shows that the phone is charging. what to do?

Have you installed the Motorola drivers in your PC? Motorola - Mac & Windows Drivers

Are you using the cable that came with the phone? (Cables that come with things like wireless headsets only have charging wires, not data wires.)

Have you tried a different USB port in the computer? (Don't use a USB hub - phones and hubs don't usually get along.)
