Why put apps on SD card?

To take most of that app out of the droid’s precious memory but still have it ready for use. Moving to SD does leave some in memory, but not much.

It is much more of an issue with mid-range to low end devices or legacy (old) phones where the system memory is under 1 GB. In most of the recent, higher end devices they have set aside a 2 GB partition for internal apps. I have anywhere from 75 to 100 apps installed at any given moment and have not had a memory issue since my Nexus One.

My teensy Optimus S fits right in that description, and I have to move everything possible to SD. I even have to uninstall all the updates of force-fed OS apps, like Google Maps, just to make more space.
