why root?

If you are happy, no need to root. Android is plenty customizable without rooting for many folks. If you want to further customize your phone, it may be necessary.

I don't know what device you are running, but sometimes updates from the manufacturer / carrier are painfully slow. Sometimes with root and the courage to flash custom roms you are able to be months ahead of them with OS updates, or you would like a "pure" android device. Those are personal choices.

You only need to root if you need to have some stuff for root functionality. The most basic one is for backups. If you want to save what stage you are on in Angry Birds for example, or whatever other apps whose progress and data you want saved, you need to root for that.

i only rooted to remove the installed programs and to be able to use the back up apps. if ur not doing anything special with the phone no need to root and waste ur time imo
