Help Why Update....?

Zen1

Lurker
I've been running a 2013 Nexus 7 for the last year or so 0n 4.4.4 and it runs perfectly. I use it every day and it's the best tablet I've ever owned. I have no complaints at all.
However I see Google have downloaded version 5.0.2 and are asking me to update.
So I have two questions...
1.Why update when the version already installed works so well...?.

2.If I don't update will this lead to issues further down the line...?.

I'm also cautious because I've read that some of these updates can cause more problems for people than they had to begin with and I don't want to ruin what for me is an excellent tablet.

Any feedback most welcome.

I say if you take the update be prepared to back up your data and do a factory reset if it doesn't perform well.
5.0.2 is the newest version of Android and brings a new look and features.
If you don't want to update though, you don't have to. The only problem I can think of with not updating is possible security risks in the future
Check out the 2nd Gen nexus7 forum and read about any problems other users have had with 5.0.2

Hi

If you are happy with it I would stick with it. You can always install the upgrade later if you come across an app or feature which you want and which needs android V5. I am sticking with 4.1.2 on my Note2 because I really dont want the hassle of upgrading - it works just how I want it now (albeit rooted, Xposed framework etc).

Having said that, I have upgraded my Nexus7 2012 from 4.4.4 to 5.0.2 and it seems OK (after a factory reset)....

Thanks for the replies...I think I'll hold off from the update at least for a few more months or until I'm sure there ought not to be any adverse effects.

The problem with this tech is that it's so fast moving and the general public keep expecting something new, different and shiny to play with....so I think some of these updates are nothing more than that along with trying to fix issues that maybe only a small (and rightly vocal) number of users are affected by.

All I'm interested in is something that works .... and works consistently....so thank you very much Google for the Nexus 7 version 4.4.4....it really is superb.... :-)
