Why upgrade to JB if tethering/hotspot will be killed?

After reviewing many of the posts and seeing that JB kills Foxfi and tethering app why up grade?

I travel a lot and bought the RAZR for the ability to use it as a hotspot for our laptops and tablets, which has worked flawlessly. After much research I have not found an app that will allow a JB loaded phone to work as a hotspot any longer. Is there a reason to upgrade if those features are dead?

Thanks for any feedback, I know a few others have the same question.

JB is so much more smooth and quicker then ICS was! Also I like all the features that Google now has brought! If ur that concerned about free tethering, just root ur phone and download WiFi tether, works just fine on JB

have you tried the bluetooth or usb tether in FoxFi?

jmt9779, can you explain how that works? I thought when I installed PDAnet+ (in JB) I was going to be able to use my Rarz as a wifi hotspot. Thought that's what I read and I CAN...for $30 MORE a month. No thank you!
So if I'm traveling in the car, with my laptop, I open PDAnet+ and find the BT connection or connect via USB and I now able to get online?

The laptop and tablet do not have bluetooth. I could use a dongle on the laptops, but not for the tablets. Does Foxfi still work on JB using Bluetooth? From what I have read, USB tether no loger works on JB and why I have not installed JB yet. Thanks for the reply.

brobox: I'm not sure if the BT or USB tether still work - I was just asking. I've always used the wifi tether feature of foxfi (not very often, though) and I just found out from this thread today that it'll no longer work. my laptop and my tablet both have BT, so i'll give it a try this weekend and see what happens; although, i doubt VZW is smart enough to block wifi tethering but dumb enough to leave BT and USB functional.

monicakm: it should work the same exact way as wifi tethering (if it does, indeed, work), but just using BT or a USB cable. in foxfi, there are different options to check off.

Depends how important tether is to you, but here are some (5) of the new features in jelly bean:

USB tether with Foxfi Pdanet works just fine with JB, however wifi hot spot no longer works, if you want wifi hot spot for JB, root your phone (takes less than 30 minutes) and install wif tether for root, works great plus you can get titanium pro for root which is also great app...GL

I found google now creepy and annoying, I disabled it after trying it for a few days....I can't really tell that much difference from ICS, I did like the sleep option on ICS

Wish I had known tether would die. I would not have updated. I did so now I'm rooted so I can tether. This is my first root and paid a guy $30 to do it BC I tried and failed. Now I've noticed chrome doesn't have flash? What's up with that? I have to go to the older browser to view flash pages?

I use Firefox and sky fire browsers, flash still works in those browsers

i must be dumb or not doing something right but i cant find the rooting stuff to root my razr maxx on 4.1.2 , can somebody post a link to it and the best tethering app for wifi my foxfi is not working now and thats really all i want so a good wifi app link would be great to .thanks

What happens with Easytether under JB? It's Mission Critical while we're in the Bahamas, where 3G is fairly common but local WiFi is scarce and/or spendy.

wireless tether is not going to work with JB update unless you root your phone and install wireless tether with root. USB cable tether will work with your laptop with JB ....pdanet which is now part of foxfi, it has option for wireless tether (won't work now) or bluetooth or usb which will work.

AFAIK EasyTether only works via USB connection with a client PC or laptop. At least that's how I use it. On Mobile Stream's page for EasyTether there is no mention of WiFi support (that is, EasyTether won't make the phone work as a hot spot), and even Bluetooth is listed as "under development".

So, the question is whether or not anyone has used EasyTether under JB.

And more importantly, do you have either a tiered data plan (as in you are paying for a set number of GB per month) or are paying the $30/month for hotspot?

Me...I am paying $30. a month for a 4 GB data plan. If I try to use Verizon hotspot, I get the call the 800 for service, which I am taking would be an extra $20. per month to use the data I am already paying for and using now with ICS with Foxfi

I get it in my plan. So I pay for it like you're supposed to..
