Help Why won't my 8 month old DX charge more than 50% charged?

It did get down to 5% this morning before I plugged it into the usual a/c charger. I thought I noticed this a few hours ago, so I did both a power down/up and a battery pull (5 min wait).

The only battery app I have is Gauge Battery widget and I did a force stop on it.

The phone is only 8 months old. (Battery still under warranty too?) I'm running the stock latest version unrooted.

The charging light blinks and the Moto battery indicator shows green and charging but even after an hour it's still stuck on 50%

What's the dealie?

Thanks in advance,

i know you said the usual charger but is it the stock charger?

Have you tried another charger?

It could be a bad battery. I think the Manufacturer warranty is a year. Not sure if it covers the battery though.

when did you notice it started doing this? Just today?

Yes, it is the stock charger that came with the phone.

It just dawned on me that it was on 50% this morning after being on the charger all night. I just figured this morning that I hadn't plugged it in all the way.

Yes, it charged fully fine yesterday.

Yall here are always really good with fixes but you dropped the ball on this one.

It took me three days to figure it out and there's much smarter than me here...

The amount the phone would charge dropped from 50 to 40 to 20 to 15 to 5% in just 4 days. As you know, 5% is near the unusable point.

I was about 75% sure there was an issue with either my charger or the phones charging port.

In total desperation this morning on not being able to use the phone at all, it finally hit me. It shouldn't have taken so long, I used to do this from time to time with my old timey Moto Razr.

My phones USB port pins were all gunked up. Pulled the battery and went after the charger plug and phone usb carefully with some 90% isoprop alcohol and a toothbrush, let it dry and plugged back in.

1.5 hrs and I'm back to 100% charged.

Keep those USB contacts clean folks!

Well, we were trying to give you the benefit of the doubt that you weren't shoving your phone into mud pits...

Seriously, I've not had a single issue with my USB contacts getting gunked up.
