Why's the plastic backing such a big deal with reviewers?

If you buy the case with it, that doubles as a stand? Its likely that you won't be seeing the plastic back very much. The stand clamps on to the back of the Tab, and its completely covered with the board that allows it to stand up like a laptop. You may want to remove the stand/case for your own reasons...maybe its too cumbersome or something. But I haven't seen the back of the device since I bought the Tab a week and a half ago :). If you choose not to get the case (bad idea for a $600+ investment), you'll see the back. 99% of purchasers are too terrified of dropping the device by accident or damaging it in a carry bag to not get it :D. Not a big deal...its what's going on ON the screen, not outside it :D!

Because reviewers never actually "use" the item they review. Most comments are on a cursary 20 minute look. Mine like yours is always covered.

Still have the original cellophane filum on mine under the gel wrap. I haven't seen the back for months. The only thing to be aware of with covering the back is that dirt can get in, and take quite a while to work its way out, if it ever does, scratching your device in the process.
