Wi-fi Access with tariff (as with iPhone)

Since iphone tariffs come with "unlimited wi-fi" access included I emailed Orange and asked them if they had any plans to roll this out to other smartphone users given that most smartphones have this capability.

The reply was No, they have no plans to roll this out!

Why should iphone users get a better benefit than the rest of us?

That why I changed to a 3 Sim only deal
 
Is unlimited Wi-Fi not a no-brainer since you're using your own Wi-Fi connection? Or am I missing the point? I have unlimited Wi-Fi on Orange as when I'm on my Wi-Fi at home or work or wherever, I can use as much data as I want.

What happens if you aren't at home or don't have wifi at work? Or if you're out and about and don't want to use up your measly 500MB allowance?
 
So you mean mobile data and not Wi-Fi then?

AFAIK Orange don't offer proper unlimited data. It's capped at 500MB. Whether you're on an iPhone or an Android phone. They call it unlimited because if you go over your 500MB you won't be limited. But you will be warned and more than likely charged.

enables you to use your PHONE to go on line
1gig may not sound much but put an app such as 3G watchdog
on your phone and see just how far 1gig goes

He means wifi as in the access to places like bt open zone wifi & another wifi network called the cloud, some operators have agreements with these wifi operators for access
 
But Orange don't have agreements with BT Open Zone or The Cloud, regardless if you're trying to connect on an iPhone or an Android phone. I don't understand his complaint tbh.

But they do! If you have an iPhone you get "unlimited wi-fi" as part of your tariff (which was the point of the thread)
 
And my point is, you get unlimited Wi-Fi with Android phones on Orange too!

Orange use this as a selling point for the iPhone but it isn't really, it goes without saying that using Wi-Fi that has nothing to do with Orange will be unlimited. I can't really explain it any clearer than I have already.

If you buy an Android device, or an iPhone, on Orange you will get unlimited Wi-Fi access provided you are within reach of a Wi-Fi access point.
 
From the Orange iPhone page:

" *Fair usage policy of 750MB/Month applies to BT Openzone Wi-Fi."

So, if you have an Orange iPhone you are restricted to 750mb per month FUP. The solution is simply to use a different wi-fi hotspot and you can wi-fi as much as you like! ;)

I couldn't find any FUP for other data plans, though I would think if there is a FUP for non-iPhone plans it would only apply to BT Openzone.

You have completely missed the point.

Orange sell the iPhone with FREE unlimited* access to BT Openzone so you can have wifi as long as you are near a BT hotspot.

If there is no free wifi hotspot near you or you dont have a (paid for) BT Openzone account then you cannot get free wifi.

My question to Orange was, if they can provide this for iPhone users, then why cant they provide it to users with equivalent (smart)phones.

As an example, We have a BT Openzone hotspot where I work but since I dont have a BT Openzone account I cant access wifi using my phone. If i had an iPhone I would be able to.

Maybe you should have made your point clearer then since it took somebody else to explain to you and everyone else what you were stumbling around trying to say.

My 1st post said ....

The only thing not included in my post were the words "with BT Openzone" after "unlimited wi-fi access". My post stated exactly what I had asked Orange about, and what they currently offer iPhone customers.

No-one had to explain this to me as I already had the information to hand, from both the Orange website and a Google search.

You chose I think to interpret this as my not understanding what unlimited wi-fi access meant, and also stated that Orange don't have agreements with BT or The cloud when, in fact, they do (with BT Openzone).

That's the bit that wasn't clear you see, the bit that you didn't type. What you did ask was completely different to what you meant. But we've managed to decipher what you were struggling to say in the end so don't worry.

Next time you have a question though, it would probably make sense for you to type all of the words you would like people to read rather than just a select few. ;) Just a little tip.
