Wi-Fi dropping out when screensaver activates

I have noticed that when my screensaver activates the wi-fi is disconnected hence any data usage during this time is over the phone network as soon as I unlock my phone it then reconnects. Surly this is not correct.I have only had the phone for 3 weeks and my first bill was excessive to say the least.I oversubscribed my free allowance by 50MB. I have since taken out the unlimited usage option(500MB). Anybody any ideas on the subject.Is it worth contacting HTC ?
 
You may want to try changing the WiFi sleep policy before anything else. One of the settings is 'Never'

Go into Settings - Wireless Controls - Wi-Fi Settings -> Press Menu button, select advanced - Wi-Fi sleep policy

I take it this will mean the battery taking a hit if it's always on??

Using WiFi is still far better than using 3G in terms of battery life and speed (not if you have a slow internet connection)
 
If your somewhere with Wifi, why not just turn 3G off? Then you dont need to keep wifi running 24/7.

that has not at all been my experience. If I turn on Wifi my battery is dead in about 3 hours...whether I'm using it or not. If I turn off wifi I get about 8-10 hours.

Think you've got something else killing your battery as I use wi-fi all the time when home and battery lasts me a day or more.

Agreed. I get between 1 and 2 days of normal use (wifi on when at home in the evening, both wifi and mobile data off at night).

Something wrong if youre only getting 3 hours regardless of wifi status.

same here with mine. wifi and gps i get 3-4 hours on my battery. turn em off and get bout 10-12 hours. also turned my 3g off,, helps some.
