Help Wi-fi issue with one phone but not the other

Lurker
My husband and I both have S4's, non-rooted, running Android 4.4.2, we are both on Verizon and even on the same plan.

We just moved to a new house and have a new router, it is one of the standard Comcast modem/router gateways. I plan to add my own router and disable the wi-fi on theirs soon but have not done so yet.
My phone has no problems with the wi-fi whatsoever. His will only connect when you are in the room where the router is and occasionally when you are elsewhere but it will show a much weaker signal than my phone does, right next to it. I have gone through the phone settings and ensured that all of our settings are the same. I did try disabling Auto Connect on his to see if that helped but it did not. I have tried resetting the router and restarting the phone, and removing the phone battery. I am wondering if somehow wherever on the phone it receives the wi-fi signal has somehow been damaged on his? Or could this be something else? I did just try resetting the mdeom/router while sitting in the room next to it and noticed that when it came back up my phone connected to the wi-fi automatically and his did not. Open to any ideas, thank you.

If you are using 5Ghz, then switch it to 2.4Ghz as this has a much stronger signal compared to 5Ghz.
Also try downloading an app such as wifi analyser to scan the wifi networks in your vicinity in order for you to assign the least used channel number to your router.
