Help Wi_Fi question for newbie

First let me thank all of you here for all the great advice. I have had a DINC for a week and I love it.

My question is about Wi-Fi. How do I stop my phone from searching for a network automatically. I would like to just connect manually when I am at home but not waste the battery power having it search all day long?

Thanks...........bigcat

Unless you've intentionally altered your WiFi sleep policy, it won't.

Power control widget is manual but works well for toggling WiFi.

With the automatic options you have to ensure that the periodic scanning required for them to work doesn't adversely impact your battery to a degree that makes the automatic toggle pointless. I mean, for example, you could set up Tasker to poll your GPS receiver constantly to toggle WiFi and kill your battery far faster than WiFi ever would.

I use a location based app called Llama and it works great. You set it to learn different areas such as Home, Work, etc...and it assigns those locations to the available cell towers. You can then set it to turn on WiFi when you are at home and turn off WiFi when you leave home.

I also use it to silence my phone at night so it won't wake me if I get an email at 3 in the morning. Very useful app!
