WIFI always drops out.

Hi all. I just purchased a brandy new Galaxy S6 last week and my carrier is AT&T.

The phone works good with one little issue. WIFI keeps dropping out every few hours. The funny thing is it will still indicate that I am connected to WIFI in the notification bar with the little arrows showing there is uploads and downloads in progress, however there will be no connection to the internet.

I did a search here on S6 WIFI issues and there seems to be a few, but I am not sure they are having exactly the same issues as me.

All I need to do to restore WIFI is to turn it off and then back on. Then it works great for a length of time that varies from a few hours to about 10 or 12 hours. I have two other tablets and a surveillance camera that work great and stay connected indefinitely. Even my previous phone, a three year old Droid DNA would never drop out, but my shiny new S6 is giving me the fits.

I have the wifi setting to stay one during sleep mode and I am not using power saver mode.

If anyone has any suggestions, I would be open to them as I have no idea where to go from here other then returning the phone.

Cheers.

First of all, my condolences on your purchase of a Samsung Galaxy S6.

The good news is you are in the position of being able to return it? I would do that, as soon as possible.

My Borneo ISP is not super reliable, so it's hard to say when it's my phone or my ISP but I do notice my phone often fails to connect within apps, even when showing full and strong Wifi signals. I don't recall this issue with my previous Samsung, so perhaps just a quirk of the S6? If so I imagine it could be connected to the overheating problem. Do you notice your phone getting hot?

Thanx. No other issues with the S6 like overheating or any of the others discussed here. Just the WIFI issue so far. I have also noticed that the 4G LTE icon will pop in and out while on WIFI and that some data will be uploaded / downloaded even though "supposedly" I am on WIFI. Something seems very strange and I do not believe, at this point, a simple setting change will make it all right. I could be wrong and I have been before.

Cheers.

Thanx. As a last resort before returning the phone, I did a full reset of the phone. After the reset, I checked for updates and there was one available. Not an Android update, but what looks to be a Samsung update. 600mb. After the reset and update, things are now working great. No wifi dropouts for three days now and instant lock on when I come home. I have 7 days left on the phone honeymoon so obviously I am keeping a close eye on it.

Maybe those having issues need to get this update, because right now the phone is working great, battery life seems good, better then my old DNA and the phone is very fast and responsive. Even the fingerprint sensor seems to be working faster then before, but it was working good before so I dunno.

BTW, the smart switch was off. I left it off. Thanx again.

I am still having issues with my wifi connectivity. I am on my 2nd phone. Verizon did a test and saw the connection issue so I returned my phone after completing, cache clearing, soft and factory resets, made sure all the updates and setting are good to go but now with the new phone, SAME ISSUE. I bought my tablet into work and that works just fine. The only people having issues in my office are the Samsung S6 people. This is very frustrating and now I'm stuck with this stinking phone.

Not quite: call 611 and explain your problem. Verizon has a program where they will let you turn in that phone and get a different one. Yes, outside of the 14 day limit...

been there, got the T-shirt.

Thanks AZgl1500. Verizon did replace the 1st S6 with a new one after the 14 days however, if I get another replacement, it will be a refurbished S6. I am being told this is some major issue with the phone and Samsung is supposed to be issuing a patch. Right now all I want to do is throw the thing out the window.
