Help WiFi connectivity - Samsung Galaxy Ace GT-S5830i

Hey all.
I'm having issues connecting my Samsung Galaxy Ace to open wifi spots. It connects fine to my home hotspot and others that I have saved (eg parents' and brother's house).
However, when I'm somewhere like McDonalds or a cafe with an open wifi network, it says my connection is strong but no app that needs a wifi connection works. I've got a connection at work that it won't let me connect to either, even though I've put in the password and proxy information.
Is there are trick with these Galaxies?
Mike

No, in fact they're easier to get on the internet than a Windows computer. Press the connection name and you should be connected in a few seconds. I've never found a public hotspot I couldn't connect to almost immediately.

At work, if the router has WPS (check with IT), ask them if you can try a WPS connection (they have to push a button on the router). If pressing that connection at that time doesn't result in an almost instantaneous connection (you don't have to put in the password), I'd suspect something strange going on in your phone.
