Root WIFI dead...will a kernel help?

OK...I just flashed Ultimate Droid 6.0 and I'm not sure if my wifi works. It can detect my home signal, but any time I enter the WEP key, it just takes forever to obtain the IP address then says "Unsuccessful" but remembers the WEP key on the phone. It's typed correctly and I'm using a wireless network in my house that is obviously up and running (since I'm on this website via said wireless network).
Just because, I even tried installing one of Chevy's kernels that was right below the link to download UD6.0 since it had "+ WIFI Module" in the description and I know people have used his kernels with favorable ratings.
So A) does anyone have any thoughts on restoring WIFI? and...
B) is there anything special I need to do to use this kernel? (it was the 10 slot 1.0 GHz kernel)
