Help Wifi disconnects and then no longer works!

Hi,

Ever since I updated my x10 to Gingerbread 2.3 about 3 months ago, my WiFi has been appalling. When it works, it's great. Trouble is, most of the time it doesn't!

What happens is it will connect, but then for some inexplicable reason (I think maybe when the Wifi Signal reaches its lowest) the connection will cut out and it will go back to GPRS (or 3G if I am lucky) If I then go into my WiFi options and look at the connection to my BT Home Hub, it will just keep saying:

"Connecting"

"Obtaining IP address"

before moving to "Disabled"

It just keeps looping through this process, and I can see the WiFi icon keeps appearing at the top of my screen.

The only way to fix it is to reset the hub, but more often than not, the WiFi will cut out on my phone again just a few minutes later!

I've tried everything, even setting a static IP, but nothing helps. Is there a fix for this?

Thanks,

Alex

That did has happened to me before. It was happening up until I reflashed and repartitioned the phone.

When you upgraded did you just use PC Companion to upgrade from 2.1 to 2.3? Did you do a factory reset after 2.3 was installed (as is recommended)?

I would suggest doing a backup. Backup contacts and whatnot, then try doing a factory reset in the Settings.

See if that fixes the Wifi issue.

For me, what would happen is the phone would connect over WIFI everytime after freshly restarting the phone, but at some point, usually within around an hour it would do what you are describing. Then if I didn't restart the phone I wouldn't be able to connect to any network. It would find it. Ask for password. It would send the request and the router would actually send the reply (I checked on my router logs) but the phone wouldn't get an IP and wouldn't connect. My 3G didn't work at all.

It happened to me probably because of something I did during the upgrade. I didn't use PC Companion. I flashed using a flashtool and upgraded to x10i ROM. I did not format one of the partitions in xRecovery and only cleared davlik and something else....but didn't repartition. Read somewhere that if you didn't format one part of the partitions (which should automatically be done during the 2.3) I also formatted my SDCard too, just to clear it up and remove any old folders and settings that were left behind from 2.1.

Hi, thanks for the response!

I did actually do my upgrade over the Sony Ericsson Update Service when it became available, so do you still think it's worth me resetting the phone to defaults and flashing it again??

You could try just doing a factory reset, and see if your wifi works. But for me it didn't. I needed to reinstall 2.3. If you use PC Companion and there should be an option to repair and reset the phone. Sucks, but it must have had a problem during the install of 2.3.

Or if it only happens on your home network and doesn't happen on any other WIFI network, maybe it is something to do with your router.

You could try changing the router security from one security type to another. Like WEP to PSK-WPA or WPA2 or something. Change from one to another. Then try again.
