Help WiFi "error" unbranded HTC Desire

Hello!

My first post here.

I have read the threads over and over, but I can't seem to figure out why my WiFi has stopped working after the 2.29.405.02 update. I bought and unbranded (so they say) phone from my local carrier and everything worked until I accepted the automatic update. I turned on the Mobile Internet and I found out that there was an even newer update - 2.29.405.05. That didn't fix the issue either.

I also did the goldcard trick with my spare sd card and tried to install earlier ROM version. I ended up getting a verification error or something like that.

I'm totally clueless now. Please help. How could I roll back the updates so I can get my WiFi working again??

i managed to roll back to android 2.1 using this tutorial:

however, i tried updating back to 2.29.405.02, but the phone "freezes" during startup when it tries to unlock the SIM card... what's that??

any input is appreciated!!
