WiFi failure

I have a major problem with WiFi on my main Android device, Samsung Galaxy A. The WiFi connection continually disconnects, several times per second, rendering the Tablet unusable for anything online. The problem lies with the Tablet itself which is on a home network including 2 other Android devices, PC and TV all of which have stable WiFi.

What can be going wrong and how can I stop it?
 
i would reboot your router and see if that helps. it could be interference from the other devices. it could be how you have your wifi setup as far as location. it could be a bunch of reasons. i would also reboot your tablet as well.
 
I have limited knowledge but I cannot see how it could be interference from other devices, wifi setup, location etc since these have remained the same for years, during which the Tablet has not had any wifi network problems. It and the router have been rebooted recently, but I will do it again. The problem with the Tablet has only arisen sometime in the past 2 weeks.
 
After a router reboot, try forgetting the wifi connection you're using on the tablet and reconnect.

There may also be a setting that's enabled that tries to keep you connected to wifi, even when you're not connected. Mkae sure all such settings are disabled.
 
it does not hurt to reboot the router as @steiny180 suggested. if it still does it after rebooting then i would tend to agree with the others on a hardware failure on your tablet.
 
I had hoped I was going to be able to report that the issue was resolved after re-booting. Connection was stable for one evening, but the following day it was back to the same on / off behaviour.

How do I 'forget' the wifi connection? have not found any reference to that in the Tablet Settings or elsewhere. Also, what are the implications of "Wi-Fi module failure in the device"? I suppose it is a hardware issue. I have had the Tablet for about 6 years.
 
Go to settings, network and connections, tap your connection, choose forget....

Your Galaxy Tab A is a pretty dated tablet and will most likely be running an also dated version of Android so don't discount the fact that older mobile devices simply become obsolete at some point.
What kind of router do you have? Is it an ISP-supplied modem/router unit or do you have your own, separate router? What model is it?
If it's a newer model you might need to go into its settings menu to accommodate the older WiFi protocol that your Tab A supports.

(i.e. if your router is currently set to only support up to 802.11ac you need to set it back to support 802.11n)
 
Solved at last! After another false trail, using the WPS button which gave me only about an hour of usage, I did something which has now resulted in a stable connection for over two days. As a temporary measure I tried connecting to a neaeby HOTSPOT, which I have not done before. It worked, plus after some hours of use when I tried connecting via my broadband service again that also worked too and has been fine since!. It was entirely a case of trial and erorr and finally success.

Maybe someone knows why, it is as if using the hotspot kicked the broadband service back into life.
