I've used my MetroPCS Coolpad Quattro 4G as a Wi-Fi hotspot! I only used it a couple of times for a bit because I only have the basic 4G data allowance and wanted to save it for when Wi-Fi isn't available. The last time I tested it was a few minutes ago, and it worked!
I have one problem, though. While I had no trouble using the hotspot with other android devices (I tried two or three, at least!), there's a problem using it with my Mac (OSX 10.6.8). Apparently, the problem is that the DNS service doesn't work, since I can access web pages only if I type in the IP number rather than the hostname, or if I have that hostname and its IP number in my /etc/hosts file. The DNS entry that shows up in the Mac's System Preferences when I connect via the Quattro is the same as the router address, and for some reason it doesn't work.
I could probably find some DNS servers that would work with all my internet connections, and suggestions would be appreciated. However, I'd like to be able to have my main Wi-Fi connection use its own DNS server, as it has been doing, routing requests through the router's address, 10.0.0.1. When I connect through the Quattro hotspot, it also uses its router address as its DNS server address (192.168.nnn.1) but with no results.
Any ideas?
