Root Wifi Hotspot works fine but Tethering doesn't

I've tried both wifi hotspot (which works great), but when I try to tether with usb cable, no luck. "Wizard" tries to find drivers for installation but never can find it. I've tried this with my laptop running Win 7, and older pc running XP. I know I'm missing something, just can't figure out what!
 
Sorry, I'm a super-noob and I have just have been using the wifi-hotspot and tethering feature that is built in to phone. My phone has yet to be rooted. I have been reading everything I can before I root. I definitely want to get rid of the crap apps. But anyway, I have paid for this service from T-Mobile but it works only as a hotspot, not in tethering.
 
Download easytether from the market n download the driver from the internet n install it on your computer n then u can tether your computer
