Root wifi hotspot?

I was thinking of getting the NOOKcolor for my wife to use as a tablet and mobile wiring hotspot. If you get the 3g model after it is rooted does android tether or barnacle tether work on the Nookcolor to use it as a mobile hotspot on the road?

As far as I'm aware there is no 3g NookColor. They're wifi only.

Is the nook one of those that will only surf wireless g waves, or will it work on my wireless n network?

Both the regular Nook and Nook Color are fine on wireless N.
