Wifi hotspot?

Hi Guys,

I hope use can help me.

Am want to buy a phone that lets me use it as a wifi hotspot, so when am on the go with my wifi iPad, I be connected to the internet. But I want to know , what kind of phone should I get and wouldi require a unlimited Internet within the monthly plan?

Thanks again for your help.

Andy

Most of the Android devices will offer that service, but yes, I guess you'd need a lot of data included in your plan.

Dependent on where you are. All Android devices have a built in WiFi hotspot, but normally in the US the feature is regulated and the carriers (TMo, ATT, Verizon, etc) would slap you an additional $20-$30 on your monthly plan so you can tether. If you're not from the US, there's no worry apart from how much data you will use and the fact that your Android's battery will be drained in about 3-5hrs. You should get a 2GB minimum data plan.

Am in Scotland, United Kingdom. So is there ny phones I should get over others du to speed?

Cheers and thanks for the previous answers

Andy

Speed would be mostly determined by what your operator offers, but standard speeds attainable by recent models are at 10mbps or better for 3G and HSDPA, and 21mbps or better for 4G models. Doesn't matter what phone you get. If you want to get the exact speeds per phone, you, should mention what models are you considering.

Am not to sure chan, but I am registered blind and would be looking at a phone that has a reasonable sized screen. Got a blackberry 8900 at the moment and it's murder lolly, but my brother is will to take it off my hands. Am thinking maybe an htc or something with windows on a mobile. My current contract with the blackberry is unlimited texts and Internet and 400 mins a month for

Windows Mobile 6.5 and lower is dead, while Windows Phone 7 is too new out of the gate to expect too much from it. I do think they have tethering but for a WP7 a Nokia is your best bet (currently the best they offer is the Lumia 800).

For an Android phone, I have no idea what your carrier offers, but if you are looking for something rather mid tier to save some money as opposed to going for top of the line models, ask for these from where ever you will get your device:

HTC Explorer - Full phone specifications
Sony Ericsson Xperia pro - Full phone specifications
Sony Ericsson Xperia ray - Full phone specifications
Sony Ericsson Xperia mini - Full phone specifications
Samsung Galaxy Ace Plus S7500 - Full phone specifications
Sony Ericsson Xperia Neo - Full phone specifications

These phones are supposed to cost less than 200 euros when bought straight up, so their contract prices shouldn't be too high.

So is that a decent speed? If say I wanted to watch Netflix on the go or YouTube, would it be possible? Am guessing capped means it wont go at higher speed than that?

Thanks again

Andy

It won't go higher than that. 7.2mbps is way more than needed to watch a movie. Heck a 1mbps connection would probably be enough. However it doesn't matter if your phone has a 21mbps antenna if your network only gives you like 500kbps. You just get what your network gives.

I've always wondered why people asked this... Didn't know that in the US the carriers charged your for using your phone as a router.

Here in Brazil it's normal, people do it all the time cost-free.

I don't normally go for "stealing". Well yes they are stealing from you (I got something like a 1TB plan per month with unlimited voice and SMS for like $50 compared to your prices there), but you signed an agreement, so technically avoiding fees like that is stealing. :)
