Help Wifi in Galaxy S

dnubpa,
no need to reset that much to fix the wifi issue.
* to get rid off unused wifi - go to wifi set up and hold press (2 secs) the wifi you don't want anymore, then there will be 2 options pop up:
1) forget network
2)change password
---> choose the first one, it will gone

another suggestions:
* setup your network according your operator - mine is GSM only (don't use auto detect GSM/WCDMA)

* Choose your operator manually

So far, my wifi and Phone connection just fine. Can't wait for my froyo - THEN , ALL HELL BREAK LOOSE !!! YEAAAAAHHHH

I tried everything you said, but it just won't work. As a matter of fact, I have no problems with my phone when it was still 2.1 Eclair. After upgrading it to froyo, my wifi got messed up...

I can also report the same wifi disconnect problem with my Samsung Galaxy S GT-I9000. My phone is a week old now, and I am running Android 2.1 that came with my phone.

The only solution I have at this stage is to switch wifi off and then back on.

I also use the "Quick Settings" app to easily switch Wifi, Data, etc. on and off.

Please fix this Samsung!

Exactly I am also having the same issues on Samsung Captivate. I tried giving static ip. Still intermittantly wifi doesn't work. Every day I am having issues. Some times switching wifi off and on is working. Some times power off and power on is working. It is really annoying. Samsung please please provide a fix for it quickly.

I upgraded last night to 2.2 wifi now doesnt work

Did you both do a Factory Reset after upgrading to Froyo?

Thanks to you for all your help , GREAT FORUM.

I like others have been trying to get the galaxy s connected onto to the home WIFI . Today on advice from some of you , I reconfigured my Belkin router

I changed it to

Quote " 802.11g only
Setting the Router to this mode will allow only 802.11n and 802.11g-compliant devices to join the network, keeping out any slower 802.11b devices. "

It was previously connected to all 3 , b , g , n

Needless to say works like a charm , right through out my house .

Im not one for posting but felt I had to , even if it helps at least one other person

Thanks again guys :)

Thanks inurd - great tip

Just wanted to chime in that I am also having these problems with my samsung vibrant. Seems to only happen from my work router but happens very consistently. Wifi will work immediately after setting it up but after a short time period will stop working completely. It will say it is still on wifi but will in fact have no access to the local network. Stopping/restarting the wifi connection doesn't fix it. The router has to be manually 'forgotten' and then readded for it to begin working again.

This is with a 2wire modem (standard issue by at&t) using WEP security in 802.11b/g mode.

Changed it to be 201.11g only and it is still having problems. Also tried downloading 'WiFi Fixer', which was recommended here with no luck.

WTF samsung. Leaving a bad taste in my mouth with my first samsung smart phone.

Have the galaxy S and it can't get an IP address no matter what. It used to work fine with my router, but after a day or 2, it just won't work. This phone is seriously buggy!

I'm a new Galaxy owner, and have climbed a very steep learning curve this past week. I have googled my Wifi problems for days and see I am not alone- why don't Samsung fix these issues??

My particular prob:
Wifi will not work on certain modems; currently it works at home on a very old SMC (unsecured!), my local Chilli's restaurant (WPA secured), but I am having problems with other modems I have tried at home- old Linksys with WEP; it worked for a day, now it still says connected but is NOT, and a new Belkin (N) which initially worked unsecured but once we changed to WEP then WPA it wouldn't connect at all (stuck obtaining IP address...). I have verified with laptop and a Nokia phone that the wifi is working on other devices. I have had it working in 1 coffee shop, but not another...

I bought it a week ago, with 2.1, then upgraded to 2.2, my problems were the same before and after the upgrade.

Help me people, you're my only hope

Had issues with my 1-week-old Samsung Galaxy S 16GB GT-I9000 (through Optus in Australia, not rooted) connecting to my home Wifi too.

Everything else seems to work OK, including Kies prog. interface with PC, Android 2.2 Froyo update, GPS etc.

Found the following suggestions when trying to address Wifi issues, apart from ensuring that Wifi is actually turned on, testing that other devices pickup your Wifi OK, testing your unit on a range of different wireless networks etc:

1) Reset SGS to Factory Default settings, power it down and reboot.
2) Power down & reboot Wireless Router.
3) Change Wireless Router broadcast channel to some other values between 1 & 11.
4) Attempt to tweak the "AllShare" app settings if you have it.
5) Try WiFi Fixer app.
6) Tweak the unit's Wifi settings such as Static IP, Sleep Policy and SSID visibility.
7) Examine the Wireless Router's Mac Filtering settings if applicable & tweak/activate/deactivate it.
8) Clear both levels of memory in the unit's ram manager then turning Wifi off & on.
9) Refraining from updating from Android 2.1 to 2.2 (though surely this would be a step backwards in general and dumb that it may help).
10) Change your Wireless Router's Wireless Mode to 802.11g instead of 802.11n or whatever else it may be set to - This is what worked for me using a Billion BiPac 5200N Wireless-N ADSL Router - As soon as I changed it to 802.11g both my SGS and wife's (also 1-week-old) Samsung Galaxy 580 (which also wouldn't connect to our (802.11n) Wifi at all) connected to the Wifi perfectly.

I prefer to run 802.11n on my wireless and am disappointed that these Galaxy smartphones claim to be 802.11b/g/n compatible yet apparently are not, forcing me to adjust my system to 802.11g.

I have another problem. I would like to access an IP address on my galaxy s, that I can now only access using internet explorer on my computer, because I have to enter specific settings for the active X controls. because I can't find an app internet explorer for galaxy s (I read that it won't be available for galaxy s - I don't know if this is true though) and because the phone does not access this IP with the firefox app or by simply googling it, I am in a dead end. Can anybody suggest which internet application I could use to access this IP?

Hi

I have to say that Android is giving me the worst experience of any phone I've had. I'm using a Samsung Galaxy S with 2.1 and, while the hardware is excellent (nice camera btw), the software is just so bad.

My current issue is that wifi isn't being used unless my 3g connection completely disappears. Not 0 bars, but the red no-entry sign that appears when the phone just cant find the provider. Only then will it use wifi. I've tried new wifi APs, changing the channels, changing the AP mode (B/G/N etc), changing encryption types (AES etc). Nothing makes a difference.

I wouldn't mind too much but reception here is terrible so apps stop uploading, things slow down.

Any ideas why this might be? I can't imagine it's meant to happen.

I spend 2 days to get this going after reading all kinds of Forum, how you should do this and do that, nothing works at all. I down loaded the samsung kies from uk version 1.5 and it work only for media and SD. also try to download PDAnet and still crap, none of this work at all because it does not reconize the driver. I have a Lenovo T410 labtop and a Tmobile Galaxy S SGH-T959. was tired of running around so I came accross this one down load. come to find out that the phone version was a 2.1, all you have to do is down load this driver to update your phone version to 2.2
Link here

Free Download Samsung Vibrant SGH-T959 PC Kies for Windows 7/Vista/XP:
Down load this link and when install completed it will reboot your computer, after restart open the program Kies Mini and it will run an update, after up date is completed. connect your phone go to Application and go to USB setting and select samsung kies, then hook up your phone via USB, once it connected it will show update version for you phone, Click on update yes. Note it will take between 5 to 15 mins to complete the process. once it is done downloading and uploading the phone will restart. just follow the promp.

Now your all done with the new version, go to setting, then to wireless and network, then you now will see Mobile AP and active it, It will turn to a wireless modem that you can connect up to 5 device. Now you can go to your labtop and select the wifi option it should say android#### click and connect to. now you got internet. Screw all the other download crap.
HOPE this HELPSSSSS.

nothing works properly on this phone. The calender is rubbish. The way calls are logged is rubbish. The address book is rubbish. The camera is rubbish. I am sorry I allowed myself to be persuaded that this was fit for purpose. It is harder to understand people than people using an iPhoine that everyone complains about. It won't detect wifi signals its battery life is poor its the worst phone I have had for years. I don't want to have to spend hours adjusting this and that changing settings to find they don't work. I can sit next to my home network router and be told it has an excellent signal and not be able to connect. The best place for this would be down the toilet.

Though my wireless networks are turned on and can be detected by other systems, my Galaxy S is not detecting any of them!
Any suggestions would be helpful..
left my problem with wifi under grey tashie had no wifi connecting at home worked everywhere else did all quotes listed to help nothing did so took sims card out (this had not been listed to do) and it worked maybe will for you too

My Galaxy S when trying to connect to my home wifi network will often hang on 'obtaining IP address' and never fully connects. However at other times it connects straight away. Any idea what the reason for this is? Advanced settings are set to 'never' sleep. I am using latest firmware: gingerbread 2.3.4.

I have Samsung Galaxy S with Froyo and it seems to be working fine. I never had a dropout in signal or activity with a WiFi network.

There seem to be plenty of fixes out there and each of them work for different people and not for others.

My best mate and his wife both have a galaxy S, she connects fine and he isnt able to connect at all. both have the exact same firmware. they have the latest OPtus 2.3.3 software. Ive tried everything above.....everything.

One thing that did finally work is I went into their router settings and changed the wireless encryption from WPA2 to just WPA and presto its connected straight away and hasnt been a problem since. Now could it be a modem issue on the phone ? his was one of the first released and hers only a few months old now ?

I have one problem with galaxy s wifi
When I want to connect it it shows following written: unable to scan netwoks.
