WiFi interference with apps?

Lately I have found that when I turn on WiFi, certain apps don't work. For example, Google News and Weather says it cannot refresh. Similarly, the Weather Channel app cannot refresh. Perhaps most importantly for me, Milk (Samsung's streaming music app) disrupts and it says "buffering."

Is this normal, and if not, how do I correct the problem. I have a Samsung Galaxy 6 and Verizon is my provider.

Thank you.

Thanks, but the smart network switch proposal didn't work. I'm seated right next to the router, and with WiFi operating the apps I referred to in my first post didn't work, and when I turned off the WiFi boom they worked.

I downloaded a signal strength app, and it shows strength ranging from -50 to -40 dBm. It also shows that it is considerably stronger than other nearby wifi signals, so I guess it is a hardware issue.

Try these steps, in order, until it (hopefully) works. They are some of the most common fixes for stubborn WiFi connections and have been successful in many cases. Do 1-5 together, 6-10 one at a time:

1. On the phone go to: Settings > WiFi > Long-press on your network > Forget network.

2. Turn off the phone.

3. Unplug the power to the router for at least 30 seconds.

4. Plug in the router and give it plenty of time to fully reboot, at least 3-4 minutes.

5. Turn on the phone and try to connect and if it works properly.

6. Open a browser and get into Setup in the router.

7. Set security encryption to WPA2/AES. Do not use TKIP or AES/TKIP.

8. Try setting a static IP address.

9. Update your router firmware.

10. Try using Google's DNS servers. 8.8.8.8 for the primary, 8.8.4.4 for the secondary.
