Wifi/Internet connection problem

After Nougat software upgrade on Monday 3/6/17, I can not connect to internet at home but can connect at work and other locations. Phone indicates strong wifi connection but will not connect to internet. I have performed shutdown and restarts for cell and AT&T router. I have selected 'forget' in wifi options and reconnected but no internet connection. Other devices (Samsung tablets & Motorola cell) connect to home internet ok. My modem/router is AT&T 5031NV. Wife has a Galaxy S5 and received a software update in last two days. Noticed last night she can not connect but do not know how long she has had this problem. Suggestions will be appreciated. Thanks.

could be a sudden incompatibility with the router. not uncommon. I'd check that the router's firmware is up to date. also, if you know someone who has the same router, try to connect with theirs. if still fails, definitely a compatibility issue. sucks, but there it is.

When I try connecting to chrome I get following message 'www.google.com's server DNS address could not be found. DNS_PROBE_FINISHED_NXDOMAIN'. I too feel it is incompatibility issue between router and these two phones. Yesterday I was on the phone with U-verse, then Samsung, then Google then back to U-verse. I am a bit nervous about changing router settings myself.

I have dealt with issues with that specific modem/router on multiple occasions. It is known to have WiFi issues. There are only 2 fixes that I would recommend. Either factory reset the modem to clear out the MAC's for those 2 devices, or disable the WiFi and get a 3rd party router. On most occasions a factory reset would rectify the connection issue; but those modems are junk...

If I disable wifi on the AT&T modem-router will I need to install a 3rd party router only? Is the connection problem more likely with the modem or router? If 3rd party router is way to go, any suggestions for a brand?
AT&T has not offered to schedule service call so it's up to me. Do I hire someone to try fix problem or do I try installing 3rd party router?
Thanks!
