Help Wifi is so unstable...

Hmm, well, I don't use the Droid's WiFi that often. But I have noticed that it has a tendency to drop if I try to transfer a large file to the Driod (several hundred MB). And ever since the 2.2 update, I've noticed that changing WiFi from enabled to disabled has a chance of locking the Droid to the point where I have to disconnect the battery.

I get the same results on my droid no matter the wifi connection. Before my warranty exchange, on a rooted droid using UD 2.1, I had no issues whatsoever. Probably going to end up rooting again.

Try changing the kernel sometimes the phone can be picking with which one you are using. I went through 7 or 8 to get the one that works best for my phone.

Here is the link to them.

Slayher Froyo Kernels by slayher - CyanogenMod Forum

I have been using the slayer 1200 version 1.6 and it seems to work great.

Just found this thread. http://androidforums.com/droid-all-things-root/98988-froyo-kernels.html

I just want to make sure before I try a bunch of different kernels...

Your saying that you had the same probelms with wifi on your Droid 1 (connection, signal, and speed) and after trying a bunch of different kernels, you finally found one that fixed all of the wifi problems? Now your wifi works with absolutly no problems with Slayer 1200 1.6?

I was having the same issues. It is a know problem with some of the kernels. The slayer kernel is working great for me, other have had good luck with the chevy kernels.

I want to say that at one point I had tried a Slayer kernel but ran into a problem regarding ipv6 and issues with Google Goggles not working. Regardless, I went and checked out the Slayer kernels and found that version 1.6 supposably fixes that issue. However, I installed and tried it and I still get an ipv6 error when running Goggles. Also, the speed and connection of the wifi with the kernel is no better than before.

Try a different chevy kernel then you have, they are supposed to have ipv6 support. The one's from kernel 3 page are suppose to have fixed the wifi issue also.

Have you thought about switching rom's. I use charity smoked glass. http://androidforums.com/droid-roms...ass-themed-version-11-froyo-2-2-1-frg83d.html

I did go back to Chevy and did get newest version 3 kernel (low @1.0ghz). I have never had any ipv6 problems with those kernels. As for the wifi issue, different kernels may pose probelms with wifi but I dont think that has ever been my problem (I have had a Chevy kernel the entire time). I just think that the Droid has a weak wifi chip; sometimes it works sometimes it doesnt. As for a custom ROM, I have tried some and never really enjoyed them as much as stock. Thanks for the help.

I've had varying results with wifi on my stock D1 depending on the particular version of the OS that's loaded in and my particular security scheme on the router, so I'm thinking it's not so much a hardware issue.

same here. and my routers running at 40 mbs....even 3g is running faster than wifi and i'm on 2.2.....seriously wtf.
