Help WiFi keeps getting turned off

On a HTC Evo, running Android OS 2.2, rooted (but not hacked)

When in my house, I leave the WiFi radio on. Until a few days ago, whenever I would activate the phone, I would see the WiFi icon in the notification bar, not the 3G icon. Recently, however, I often see the 3G icon initially, and then it is replaced with the WiFi icon. Using Android System Info, I do not believe that there are any new/unwanted programs running.

My concern is this: Is some program update the cause of this behavior and/or is this behavior cause for alarm (i.e., some program is behaving maliciously)?

In case it helps, here is my list of installed apps:

El Presidente,

Thank you - that may have been the problem. I was unaware of this setting. (Actually, it may be the case that WiFI sleep had never worked properly.)
