Wifi keeps turning off, EVERY 5 SECONDS

Hello Android Forum. Newby here, and sadly I am here with problems, rather than envy over my droid. I just recently picked up a super slick and awesome Caterpillar B15 Smart phone running JB, 4.1.2. Everything about it is awesome, including the fact I can freak my friends out by calling them from under water in their pool:p. Hahahaha. Anyways, the only bad things about this phone, is that I bought it unlocked for any GSM network use. Well it wont connect to any APN's, meaning no data connections, just calls/texts work.

So I figured I would just connect to wifi to sync my gmail and contacts and apps etc etc. Well when I turned wifi on, it showed all the networks in range, then automatically toggled wifi off. I tried again several times. Nothing. So I restart the phone, no avail. I figured it was my wifi, so I went to McDonalds, and same thing. The wifi WILL NOT stay on, let alone connected to a network. I have tried setting the wifi to never turn off in advanced settings, nothing. I would try updating the phone, but with no data or wifi, thats near impossible unless I can use a computer.

Anybody had similar problems and remember how they fixed them?

Probably faulty. Sounds like you've tried everything you can with it. Not sure what the Cat B15 is, maybe a phone of unknown Chinese manufacture, that's just branded by Caterpillar. If it is, fluky WiFi is often an issue with them due to poor quality. I'm almost certain Caterpillar doesn't make cellphones themselves, and they license their brand out for many different products. Best bet might be to RMA it for refund or replacement under warranty.

I'd guess it's actually something like one of these....

Ruggedised Android cellphones from China, wholesale prices from around $70 a piece. Most likely why the WiFi is giving problems.

I can't quite remember where I found it but I think the ACTUAL manufacturer is Casio. And searching for Casio related wifi problems didn't show much at all.

EDIT: Nevermind, the article was comparing the B15 TO casio, not saying they manufacture them,
although on Cats website, it states this;

It isn't one of those.. Not even close.... I could have bought like 5 of those for what I paid for mine. It is made through bullitt mobile out of UK.

Anyways, I tried turning the wifi on every time it turned off for a good five minutes and now it stays connected. Weird, maybe just a bug in the phone. Now all I have to do is find out how to connect to an APN to get data.

You probably have to enter your carrier's APN details, which are specific to the carrier. Should be able find them on their website somewhere, or contact the carrier see what they say. Tell them you need their APN settings as you're using a phone that wasn't supplied by them.
