Help Wifi not turning on

teme

Lurker
I bought galaxy s today. And i used it for a while. Wifi worked good. But some time after it didnt. When i go to Wi-fi settings everything else is gray exept the ''Wi-fi''.
If i click it. it says: turning on... and then it says: Error.
It doesnt matter if my router is turned on or off. it just says error.

If i try to enable it from the power control widget. it gets the light green light and not the full bright green that i get from the other buttons.

What could be the problem? I think it stopped working after i updated something with the samsung apps.

Please help me.

Looks like the ''samsung apps'' updated my galaxy s to 2.2. I just accepted all the updates and the wifi stopped working.

I have no applications on my phone.. and i cant get anything on it without wifi!
Wifi works good on my other devices... it just gives me an error on galaxy s.

please help me!

Did you restart the phone?

I got an Error sometimes when turning on Wifi from the shortcuts menu in the drop down menu.

I get this sometimes, a soft reset cures it or give it 2-3 minutes of trying to start then go to settings>wireless and network>wifi settings.
Under wifi it will say error (as you know), if you press it, it should then connect.
I have found this happens when the memory is low (45 ish)
HTH

Exactly what happens here as well on the T959D Telus Galaxy S. It has to be a software bug in 2.2 and will not allow the phone to connect. I had an HTC Desire for a while and though I would give this a go. It had no such problem with the same wireless connection (my home). But this does on more than one Galaxy. Yet another example of poor pre release tuning of Froyo for the Galaxy S and it so so slow when the claim its faster than 2.1. Maybe if it weren't thrown in as is.

I have just ran into this problem. All the websites I have looked at all talk about unlocked phones. Mine is on a Virgin contract, bought from the Virgin shop. One "solution" I found was *#*#526#*#* which apparently works for the Galaxy S but I am sure I heard my phone just laugh at me when I tried it. Looks like this problem has been going on for over a year now! Surely someone has a solution somewhere.

Please help before I take my phone back to the shop.

Thanks

Exactly.

In my case, it would either sit on "Turning on..." in the wifi settings screen, or it would eventually say "Error"

I checked the memory and found it sitting at about 40MB free.

I did a level 2 clearing of the memory and the wifi immediately connected without any hesitation (after sitting on "Turning on...")

Thanks GalaxyTDM.
