Help Wifi Obtaining IP Address/Trying to Connect Loop

I gave up trying to update to 2.1 a week ago and figured I would just live with it for awhile. The device has been working great, no complaints until yesterday.

I did notice a few days ago when I left my home wifi, when I got back home it didn't automatically re-connect. But it manually reconnected as soon as I started the auto-dect up.

But yesterday it wouldn't connect. It lost my WEP password too. I an using an app called Wefi Connect (have been since day 1) and now it is just stuck in a loop and doesn't connect to my wifi at all.

This is a deal breaker, because I can't afford to stay on a 3G network while I am at home, it will kill my 200MB cap and I haven't figured out how to turn off the 3G either.

TIA

ps, I did try to flash to 2.1 again last night hoping it would fix it. I am just having no luck, first when I down the files into seperate folders and then Extract the files into seperate folders I get some "Can't extract history files" error. But then when I go through the process every seems to work ok until after 3 minutes into the flashing and then I get an error that says it can't find the loader.sin but says it was successful. But my device is unchanged, still branded to at&t and still on 1.6.

Have you tried uninstalling the third party app you are using for WiFi? I have always used what came on the phone and after initially scanning and saving it connects automatically when I am within range.

I will try that, I like the little app, but I haven't had much luck finding hot spots with it anyway, so maybe it is the issue.

I uninstalled the app, it still wouldn't connect, I went into the setting and "forgot" the password and then reset it again, and it connected. So I am good for now :)

To turn off the 3G...

For 2.1 (1.6 is similar look for the data traffic tick box I think that's still the same) Settings > WL and Network > Mobile networks > Data traffic (untick)

Although I've found 3G turns itself on when you turn off wifi so watch out for that.

Can you set up your internet connection and the router again and get a new wep key?
Also you might be able to log in to your router and get the wep key off that I'm not 100% on that you might need the wep key for that.

To be honest, not sure what the issue was, but for some reason about 3 or 4 days ago, it lost my WEP password. I thought I typed it in correct, even unchecking the option so I could see the password after I entered it. Everything seemed set up ok, but it didn't work. I finally un-installed Wefi and then reset the password one more time. And it worked again. :D

When I first got the X10, I noticed when it "went to sleep" the Wifi would shut off and 3G would switch on, I fixed that with some setting changes and life was good.

My goal was to eliminate 3G as much as possible so I could downgrade to the 200M plan and I did that. Since I work from home, I am on my Wifi except when I leave the house, so many days I had zero 3G, even when I left the house for short trips. But the last few days (before I sent the X10 back), I noticed it wasn't reconnecting to the Wifi when I got home and then it lost the password.

There was one version of the official firmware (pre-2.1, 1.6 I believe) that had Wi-Fi broken. I would definitely attempt a firmware update before you do anything serious like return the phone.

Edit: Install Sony Ericsson Update Service (aka SEUS) from their webpage, and use that for updating. It makes installation of official firmware very painless.
