Help WIFI Off / 3G-4G On

Is there a means to automatically turn WIFI off and turn on 3G or 4G on when you leave your location where you had been using WIFI? For example any time you are in your car.

Currently using ICS on a Razr

  1. From a Home screen, select Apps (located in the lower center).
  2. Select Settings.

If you have wifi always on, and the wifi menu item set to scan and notify when available wifi networks are detected, you'll see it trying to connect. Quite the battery drainer, though.

It's just better to handle the situations manually as you move along.

My Note 2 and the S3 devices handle it a bit differently, but the Razr needs your choice. Exception: 3rd party apps from the Google Play Store with the features you say you need. ;)
 
If its a place that ur frequently at say like home or work,then just setup a smart actions toggle,u set the trigger to enable or disable wifi when the GPS sees u arrive and leave those locations! It works great,I have mine set to automatically turn wifi on/off when I arrive/leave home and it works flawlessly!
 
I use an app called Y5 Battery Saver which is free on the Play Store. All you have to do is connect to any Wifi signal that you use regularly like home and work and the app remembers those locations automatically without using GPS. No need to keep GPS running which can drain battery and I find it to be more reliable than Smart Actions location triggers. Then you just keep the app enabled and it automatically turns Wifi on when you're at one of those locations and turns it off when you leave the location. Very simple, just set it the first time and forget it.

If this app dsnt require/use gps then how does it know when u arrive/leave those locations?

There are other location services in your phone settings so it might use one of those. I did also read in a Lifehacker blog that it determines location based on cellular signal triangulation.

All I know is for me it has worked very reliably on my DX and DRM. When I got my DRM, I tried to set up a Smart Action to turn WiFi on/off based on GPS location and it was very erratic. It would turn WiFi on/off at a much greater distance from my home which was interferring with other Smart Actions I had set up for instance starting my music player app on my phone triggered by a bluetooth connection to my headphones at the health club within a short distance from my house. With Y5, Wifi turns on/off pretty much when I enter or leave the garage to my house.

I haven't tried setting up a Smart Action based on location in quite some time. I think they made some changes awhile back so maybe it's more reliable now.

Hmmm,OK... I have been using smart actions for awhile now to turn wifi on/off and it has worked flawlessly for me!
 
IMO --- manually turning wi fi on or off, or mobile data on or off is a simple procedure using power widget, and is guaranteed to be the most efficient use of battery (as in NOT DRAINING IT!)

Months ago I had issues with SA with location based triggers. They'd go on miles away from the trigger location and stay on for miles after leaving a location. Two days ago I decided to give them another try since the app had "supposedly" been improved. Still the same issue and I, once again, stopped using any SA with location based triggers. I still have some other SA that I use. They're just not based on location. I like the program, but would even more if they'd fix the location issues.

Exactly what I was experiencing. The "location" trigger was just too broad of an area, several miles, and caused conflicts with other smart actions on my phone. I do have several other smart actions using triggers of bluetooth connection, time of day and charging status which work just fine.

Agree, this works too. I have a Widgetsoid switcher bar widget in my pull down notification bar with toggles for data connection and background sync, along with several other functions. Toggle data and background sync on only when you need to use them and your battery life can double to triple what it is if you leave those on constantly.
