Help Wifi or data better for battery?

I'm looking at ways to cut down on battery usage. Just learned that I can save battery by turning off 3g/4g when I don't need fast internet and just use EDGE. That's great.

now, I'm often around a wifi connection. I tend to keep wifi off on my phone unless I really need it. However I'm wondering if it would use LESS battery to turn off my phone's network, and use wifi only for internet/calls/text.

Basically I'm just wondering if wifi uses less battery than any data/phone network.

from what ive experienced wifi uses less battery (for me). i use an app called Y5 its in the market, its free. basically what it will do is say u have wifi availability at home and work and u can connect to them. y5 will automatically turn ur wifi on when ur in those areas, and when u leave those areas it will shut your wifi OFF thus saving ones battery.
