i wasn't very happy with the lack of support i found to fix my bad wifi signal. I eventually pick up Bearextender and made it work. I spent months recreating what i did so other people could do it to, without the frustration and damage from throwing your pad against the wall repeatedly. So lets get to it.

1. You need to have the Tim5a rom.

2. You need to plug in the adapter and switch the wifi button to the ON position.
This is very important!!! My wifi buttons never worked until i flashed it and spent a month figuring it out.

3. You now need to install the rom.

4. After flashing, Start it up with the adapter pluged in and the wifi button switch OFF.

5. After boot,go to wifi settings and turn wifi off.

6. Turn wifi button on and then in settings turn wifi back on.
You may have to turn the wifi on and off a few times from settings for it to register. What your looking for is the blue LED to start blinking

And thats it!!

A few things:
I haven't tried this with 6a yet but when i do i'l post about it.

Constantly check your USB cord. Mine started corroding and making the adapter glitchy. Again, that was a month gone.

This thing sucks power! The trade off for the better connection. You should unplug it if you need to save battery.

Troubleshooting:
Let me know what your specific problem is and i'l try to recreate it.

Thanks and goodluck!

we talking generic usb dongles or just certain ones?

I think you will find we are talking the internal wifi dongle. The original internal dongle had a 3070 chipset and any external usb dongle that used the same chipset would work, without alteration or extra configuration, as there are now AFAIK three different internal wifi modules out there, each requiring their own drivers it stands to reason once you have discovered which chipset your internal wifi uses you can use an external usb wifi module that uses the same chipset..

Of course, if you buy a 3070 chipset module, Edimax EW-7711UAN for example, you should be able to get it working by using one of the scripts included with Tims builds, albeit at the expense of the internal module if it has a different chipset.
