Wifi Status App

Lurker
Does anyone know of a decent app that will display the status of a wireless network with b/g/n status? all the wifi apps i've tried does not display this information.

Anyone help would be great!

Thanks...

If you mean what speeds the network will handle, that can't be done with an app, it has to be done with hardware. (You need an adapter you can force to one mode, then try to connect. Then force to the next mode and try. Etc.)

Thanks for the fast reply... Well, that's a bummer. Wish it could be done with an app. Oh, well...

Thanks again!

Sounds to me like he's looking for something to determine whether a wifi network is running B/G/N, much like data networks running 3g/HSPA+/4G/LTE.

Since wifi routers don't broadcast what they're running, you have to connect to them using b, then g, then n to determine which ones the router will accept. An app could be written to do that, but most hardware today will do all 3, so the phone hardware and the router hardware will work it out by themselves, using the fastest protocol they can both use. Knowing in advance which ones the router will accept may be interesting, but it won't actually let you do anything more than the hardware does by itself.
