Help WiFi switching on when not wanted

Tony 53

Hi, I can't find a posting similar to this so I hope I'm not duplicating what's already been posting. My problem is with wifi on my Samsung Galaxy s5.
I first noticed a problem before the last software update. As I use my phone for alarms I always put it in flight mode over night and I first noticed that when turning flight mode off the wifi symbol would briefly come on (only a second or so) only to then go off. I can manually switch it on and it stays on. This happens every time switching flight mode off.
What is now also happening is that during the night wifi is turning itself on and staying connected. This doesn't happen every night though.
I have vodafone's protect app which only showed 1 privacy issue with a suduko app which has now been removed. I still have the problem with wifi not turning on when coming out of flight mode but as the other issue was not every time I don't know if this is fixed and won't for a several days.
Has anyone else experienced anything like this and if so how did you fix it please.

I never use the Flight Mode, I use MacroDroid to take care of little issues like that.

MD will let you have 5 macros in the free version..... I'm using 13 macros so I upgraded, it is a good app.

One of my macros senses the Screen, and when it is locked, it turns off the WiFi. And it stays off until it is turned back on again by me manually, or if I activate a 2nd macro which will turn it on when the screen is unlocked. I usually leave this "turn on WiFi macro "OFF"... therefore, it never turns on the WiFi unless I do it manually... just depends on my needs at the time.

I turn the macros off or on, depending on what my circumstances are.

ie, when it is Wireless charging, and it is 95% charged, it wakes up and beeps to let you know it is "almost charged".
well, my wife can hear a mouse walking in the next county over and that irritates the hell out of her. I'm 30% hard of hearing and don't care.....

So, I wrote another macro that senses Charging... that macro turns OFF all SYSTEM sounds until I unlock the phone, then turn ON another macro which I call "Awake Volume Levels" . This macro will preset all system volume levels to my presets when the screen is unlocked.

My S5 only needs to be charged every other day, so it is no bother to turn off all sounds to charge it, and then turn the sounds back on again. It keeps the household a lot happier.... if she ain't happy, I ain't happy....

Hello and welcome to Android Forums Dilay! :)

Thank you for your post.

There are currently 41 different models of the Samsung Galaxy S5 and over 3,000 different stock Samsung firmware versions, worldwide, covering 6 different Android platforms, Android 4.4.2, Android 4.4.4, Android 5.0, Android 5.0.1, Android 5.0.2 and Android 5.1.1. Not all issues will affect all models or firmware releases and your answers to the following questions will help in the forum's answers to your specific query.

#1. Could you post your Model number and Android version...

To locate these, go to...

Settings > More > About device > Model number and Android version

This will give you the model of Samsung Galaxy S5 that you have and which Android version you are on.

#2. Your current Firmware, (not just Baseband), version .

To locate your current firmware version, go to the stock, Samsung, dial pad and type in...

*#1234#

This will give you your, "Version", details in full, usually 3 lines of information, AP: CP: CSC:, which may all be relevant.

*** If code *#1234# has been disabled on your firmware, you can download and install, free from the Play Store, Phone Info and it will give you, under Firmware Info... PDA, Baseband, CSC, versions.

#3. Also helpful would be your carrier, (service provider), location, (UK, India, Russia, USA, etc: ), and if your phone is rooted or not and running a custom ROM, (give details).

Thanks. The above helps us to help you and hopefully someone will be able to reply to you shortly. :)

S1 ??

Do you mean the original Galaxy S ?? if so, I have one of those in my hands, and it does not do that....
the secret is to go to Google Play store, then to settings and tell Play Store to NEVER UPDATE APPS.

then delete all of the downloaded stuff you don't want. You can even download all of the "updated OEM apps", they will just revert back to the OEM apps that are on the ROM.

That is how I control my phones. None of them have AutoUpdates turned ON.
If the phone is working now, why change it to something that might not work right?

My life is much simpler since I started doing that about 6 years ago.

This method works on any make/model phone.
