wifi symbol grayed out

Sometimes on my HTC Inspire the wifi shows as being connected, but the symbol is grayed out and I can't connect to the internet. So far the the way I've been Abe to correct the issue is to reset the phone which is a major pain in the butt. Does anyone have any ideas about this?
 
When the WiFi/Signal bar is grey, it means you are connected to the hotspot/antenna but not google servers (and usually the internet in general).
