Root wifi tether - infrastructure possible?

Edit: I was able to get it working by using version 3.1-beta6, changed the device profile to Samsung Fascinate, setup method to "Softap for Samsung (master)", and enabling access control - though I don't know if that's a requirement or not. It didn't connect the first time, and I had to enable access control and approve it for it to work.

I'm new to the Kindle world (just bought the basic Kindle, no 3G or anything, and not the Fire)... and just discovered it doesn't like ad-hoc/p2p networks. I haven't been able to get the main Android wifi tether app (this) to work just right. It appears it has the ability to "fake" an infrastructure wifi network, but I'm not quite there... anybody able to do this yet? It appears this phone CAN do it, but I haven't figured it out yet.
