WiFi tether?

Currently have Droid X and have had one since the day it was released. The RAZR is the first android phone that has gotten my attention since due to it's supposed amazing battery life.

However, the one deal killer would be if there was no way to run third party wifi tethering apps. Not paying $30 extra / month just to get the data I already pay for off the hardware I already own.

I'm guessing that if the bootloader is never unlocked that there won't be a way to do this. But the Droid X in the very beginning had the same issue and it only took a few days to crack it even though it was supposedly uncrackable.

I think their is a chance the same hotspot hack from the Bionic might work. They left the hole for the root. They may have left the hotspot hack also. I will definitely be giving it a try unless I hear otherwise.

The bootloader on the X has not been cracked. Bootloader cracking and rooting are two different issues.

I think Moto left the exploit intact on purpose knowing that a lot of tech-heads won't buy it until it's rooted.
I doubt it. I think they're just trying to make the software on their phones as common as possible because that decreases the development time/cost and gets updates out faster. So, if there is an exploit in one, it probably exists in others.

That also gives me hope that I'll get Smart Actions and Motocast on the DX (even if from a 3rd party dev).
