I can confirm that I've finally figured out which settings will make a wifi hotspot app actually work with the Galaxy Rush - JB. Rush has crippled driver and firmware which OOB try to make it suck to tether, so those out there that can't get tethering except via USB perhaps, need to have a look at this. The problem you are probably facing is that you're tethering your hotspot in AdHoc mode, and it's producing an error in the log when you start the tether using the Tether project apps.
First off, I am using the 3.3-pre2 version of the Android Wifi Tether app from the Google Code page.
Here are the settings that you need to use:
Device-Profile - Generic ICS/JB wlan0
Setup Method - Auto
Fallback Tether - YES
Send Netd Max Client - YES
Enable Wifi encryption - YES
WiFi Driver Reload - YES
(don't check the second one though)
Keep Alive / Connection Check - YES
MSS Clamping - YES
Routing fix - YES
Also, just on another note, it seems that after 2.5gb of data usage on your account, you'll get throttled by Boost/Sprint. I am not totally going to stand behind my next statement - but I think it may be very much right - it appears that Sprint/Boost actually only seems to know your data has gone over by your phone sw indicating that usage to them in the first place, so...something about the 'throttling' folder or maybe throttle... after doing what another guide suggested, my data speed is back to normal despite a txt warning of my data being throttled.

I've spent a good majority of the last couple days going bezerk on this phone with this, because I just moved and haven't gotten my internet access setup, so I haven't been able to use like my tablet or desktop computer for days. I'm also stupidly smack dab in a dead zone at the middle point of two cable company hotspots, which frustrates the heck out of me, because if I walk a block away I can get full speed access through the cable company wifi grrr.
