Root wifi tethering problem

lowki

Newbie
I have an asus tf300t and a rooted samsung prevail running ctmod 3.6. I can not get my tablet to connect to my phone using wifi tethering. I have been able to get bluetooth dun connected and I can get on the internet, but nothing else works; calender sync, email, or other apps that use a network connection. I am using PDAnet and foxfi to connect right now, but I am at a loss to what is causing this limited connection. I know the wifi works fine bc when I go to starbucks to use the internet it works fine. At this point I am very familar with the android os and android SDK.
I have found that since this tablet is so new, there is not a lot of help articles on it. Normally I can find the answer to any question with just a little bit of research, but after a week of looking I am still no closer to fixing the problem. I really want this to work and any help would be great. I do have root access, but no custom rom installed. I tried cm9, but wifi problems became even worse as it did not turn on.

Well shortly after posting my question here I found a solution to my problem and I thought I would share with you. My problem was bc when I was trying to tether to the tf300t, I could only create an ad hoc network, but our lovely little devices do not support such a connection. When ever I would tap on the WiFi signal in settings it would just say saved, an f-ing error msg would be nice Asus! The only WiFi connection you can make is in infrastructure mode, the different between the two is beyond the scope of this post, but just Google it a little bit. I have a rooted Samsung galaxy prevail and I made this possible by using an app called android WiFi tether, it has a yellow WiFi signal as its icon. Depending on what type of phone you have this may or may not work for you. I found an article that tells you how to set up the app on the XDA site, I will link to it at the bottom. Hope this helps.

I have a Samsung Captivate and using WiFi tether was also my solution. Requires the phone to be rooted. Now I can tether my TF300t to my Captivate for internet access.
