Help Wifi Tethering Workaround for Unlocked phone

Hello All.

I am the somewhat miffed owner of a Samsung Galaxy S Relay 4g that is unlocked.

Now I have taken steps to enable certain things and will list them below.

My Carrier is StraightTalk. I had a Nokia E71 with sim card and it was on AT&T's prepaid network through StraightTalk. I took the card out and ran it in an AT&T Samsung Captivate Glide for a while and it all ran flawlessly with apps and anything I tried since it was also unlocked.

Well the Captivate stopped charging one day since it's charge port broke. It was several years old so I looked up newer phones by Samsung with a slide out keyboard and found the Relay!

I got it in the mail and plugged it in. I did the APN settings from ST's website and data and MMS have been working great.

I did notice there is a built in Wifi Tethering/Mobile Hotspot in the Apps Drawer. Opening it brings up the T-Mobile default app. I did my settings and then went to hit the On/Off toggle button. It flashes on for a split second then back off and the phone does not give any indication that it can't do such at that time for whatever reason...it's just off.

Now I tried downloading the 'Portable wifi hotspot' app I used on my captivate. It actually starts the t-mobile app and does indeed make the button stay 'on' and show in the notifications panel that it is on...but none of my wifi enabled devices can find it. I tried various other free wifi hotspot apps and just about all turned on the default tmobile app and sometimes my devices did pick up my network, but never got any kind of internet connectivity from it.

I have now rooted my device using a PC program called Kingo Android ROOT. I attempted to use Odin to do a flash but it didn't verify properly so I stopped and found Kingo which worked. It put SuperSU in my apps Drawer and all seems to be working nicely. I downloaded System App Remover and got rid of some tmobile bloatware. But I am not getting any luck finding the default wifi tether app to remove it or having any luck to get third party apps to work. 'Wifi Tether for Root Users' is using it's own icon, and shows in notifications that it is on but isn't broadcasting to my wifi enabled devices.

So I am going nuts here trying to get Wifi Tethering to work off of the phone. I run over the road with a tablet too and honestly it was nice using it for a larger screen when I wanted. Can anyone give me suggestions to try to get Wifi tethering to work on this thing? I don't care if it uses tmobiles default app or not I just need it to work. I am not on tmobiles network itself so they shouldn't care.

My experience with odin is still amateur at best but I am trained in computer networking so I am not a total hopeless noob.

Thanks all.
