Help Wifi turns off immediately

I've got a Note 3 that I've had for a number of years. It recently ran out of memory, and in the process of freeing up memory, I cleared the Cached data.

now, when I turn on wifi, it immediately turns off. As in i drag the slider to 'on' and after a second the slider moves by itself to the 'off' position.

I have restarted the device several times. Occasionally, wifi will work after a reboot for a little while, then turn itself off.

I've installed aLogCat, but don't seem to see anything useful. When I turn on wifi I see:
updateVisibility: ActivityRecord{16123d6c token=android.osBinderPrixy@2fa9f255 {org.jtb.alogcat/org.jtb.alogcat.LogActivity}} show : false

I've googled this problem, but haven't seen anything useful.

Does anyone have any ideas?

I had this same issue all day today. Also have a note 3. Tried restarting, tried whacking the back (there were posts that suggested a poor sodering bit on the wifi radio and people were gEttinger it to work by hitting it.. figured may as well give it a try). As a tenporary solution until this gets figured out turn on airplane mode then tien on wifi and then turn airplane mode off. For me the wifi still turns on and then immediately off without airplane mode on first. This leads me to believe that there is something wrong with the toggle but that's just a guess. Im going to keep looking for a solution but in the meantime you can use the airplane mode trick to at least still get wifi.

Alright so I found a solution, whether or not this will hold I have yet to see but here it is nonetheless: Pull down notifications drawer, tap and hold on wifi icon to go to the wifi settings, on the wifi settings screen press the options key (capacitive button at the bottom, to the left of the home button), click advanced from the menu, deselect "Always Allow Scanning." Mine now works like it did before. I have no idea why all of a sudden it randomly started doing this but it works now so I hope this works for you.
Also, to any tech support reading this or anyone in the future with this problem I noticed that turning on my mobile hotspot (had to have mobile data turned on to get hotspot to connect and verify) and then turning hotpot off allowed me to turn my wifi on but only once. To clarify, when I turned the hotspot on and off I could turn wifi on and it would work but as soon as I turned wifi off and tried to turn it on again I would have the same problem as before.
It's super weird that this seemed to happen randomly but I'm just glad mine is working again... for now

thanks! Your temporary work around 'sort' of worked for me. I could connect to wifi when in airplane mode. but regardless of the on/off order, i could not connect when not in airplane mode.

However, the "always allow scanning" seems to have fix it. I additionally turned off "auto connect" to AT&T wifi hotspot.

just for completeness, I don't have the phone set up for mobile hotspot.
