Wifi without network plan

We are going to buy our 9 year-old an I-Pod Touch or a Droid. We have WiFi in our home. Could the Droid connect to the internet and otherwise work fine (minus texting and phone) without a cellular network connection? I have read a thread comparing the two, but nowhere does it discuss this issue. Thank you.

Welcome to the forums, bozpcc.

That's how I use my Samsung Galaxy Tab, no data plan, just wifi. ;)

Thx Frisco, I ask because my Palm Pre Plus requires I lon into palm which I don't think I can do without a network plan. Sam

Nothing like that with Android tablets. As a matter of fact, some are made for wifi only.

The Xoom comes in a wifi only model, as well as the Galaxy Tab, for example.

I think that most phones and tablets regardless of OS or manufacturer should work on WiFi only as long as it as a WiFi antenna (which they practically all do). My old Nokia phone with the SIM removed can access apps and the internet on WiFi.

I'm not familiar with Palm, so I can't comment on that. Androids should work with WiFi.
