Help Wifi won't connect to to other networks

Paragon77

Lurker
Got my Nexus in December and so far have no trouble with it. It connected to public networks and my secure network at home.

I have the latest update 4.2.2. Yesterday I tried to connect at work and no go. Not unusual for work--many things could happen there.

But today I was at a Krystal in Orlando that had wifi. So I tried it out, and same thing. It will see the network, tell me about it, then save it. But will not connect. Even when I tell it to connect.

Got home and she connected with the home network just fine.

Ideas? I have tried turning it off and on. Nothing.

Welcome to the Forums :) We're glad you're here

does it save the network in your list? Have you tried another secure connection to see if it works there? (maybe a friends house)

Hi!

Yes, the network still apears in the list. I don't know anyone close who has a network.

My phone also could not connect to the Krystal hotspot (iPhone 4S), or to the one at work (it never could get the work one).

I will take it to Panera tomorrow and see if it can connect there. It's connected there before--that one is also on the list.

Obviously, it works. Just some kind of software thing, I guess.

could be the wifi was down. i loose wifi at home sometimes but it still shows on my devices as active even though its down. a reboot of the system and it's generally back on track

I recently ran into this issue at a local breakfast place that I have used for months with my N7 and also my iPhone.

The WiFi was seen and saved as you say, but would not connect. It took me a few times, but I finally realized that they had changed their wifi provider, hardware, settings, etc (??), and now I have to select the "Sign In to WiFi..." notification from the list (top left of display) and "accept" the terms each time.

Hopefully it could be this simple for you too.

The option to sign in never appeared. It just kept saving it, and did nothing.

Today I went to Panera and it connected to the saved network there flawlessly. Then I stopped at Barnes and Noble and it connected to the attwifi they use there. Both on the list.

Tomorrow I will try again to connect to the Disney Guest Wifi. That has been strange sometimes as they upgrade it and put more antennas in place for it.

Thanks for the advice....I certainly hope it is just systems down. I love my tablet...so handy.

The "sign in" appears in the notification area only after you attempt to open a web page and the network attempts to redirect you to its sign-in portal. A tap on the notification takes you to the sign in page. Some networks remember you and don't require a login next time, others require it every time.

A simple way to make sure you are properly connected is to try to browse any public website first, before attempting to use any other internet apps; that way you will always get the "sign in" notification if it is required.

I was able to get it to connect today. That was scary. I really love this tablet and I had it with me in NOLA last month and it connected to all the wifi I tried, so to have it go on strike was not a good feeling.

Sometimes the phone is not a good indicator, either. It refuses to connect to the Disney Guest wifi.

Thanks for talking me down. :)
