wow. really demonstrates the principle of trusting your wifi, and only using wifi as a last resort.

The base of the scam is setting up an access point which uses the same name as a commercial AP (BTOpenZone), or targeting ISP's that use the same Broadcast ID for all their routers.

Avoid setting these up on your phone and you should be fine

Why are you singling out phones? Any device that uses WiFi would be a possible target.
